Hey all, I've been wondering this for quite some time now. If you have a steel string acoustic guitar, does it really matter if you use electric guitar strings on it, ir are you better off just using dedicated acoustic strings?
I don't think it really matters but personally I would use regular acoostic strings on an acoostic guiatr because I just think it sounds better that way
yeah, true. I've tried it both ways, and I can't pick which I like better. for blues, I do electric strings, for jazz, acoustic.
One of the biggest differences is the unwound G string. In an electric set, this string is unwound and lends itself to bends ETC, sometimes on an acoustic, this can sound kind of thin to the ear. Also depending on what type and quality guitar you're playing with, heavier acoustic strings may give you a bigger sound.
again, well made point. Like I said, I've tried both, and the electric strings work really nie for blues. I like a brighter sound to my guitar, anyway.
Acoustic strings on an acoustic guitar all the way. I live by phospher bronze. D-Adario for life on the acoustic. If I want the crazy bends and the flexability, I go with extra lights, a good bendable string with some volume to it. For drop tunings or warmer sound, I go up to 12s or in down tune situations, 13s. That's just my opinion.
Elixir 13's here.I play a taylor GS 7e and I want tons of low end with a nice balanced high end for picking. I recently bought a set of EXP 12's for my wife's taylor gs and I didn't like them at all!
Back when I played guitar, I prefered the big thick strings. Now that I am on the bass, I usually down tune to B-E-A-D tuning on my four string.
